The wait is over! We are officially open at Roadchef Watford Gap M1 Northbound, and we couldn’t be more excited to share this milestone with you. This isn’t just any new store opening — this is a first-of-its-kind concept for Chaiiwala, taking our love for Indian street food and freshly brewed chaii to a whole new level.
If you’ve been following our journey, you’ll know that over the last decade we’ve gone from a single store on Evington Road, Leicester to over 100 locations across the UK, serving more than 100 million cups of our iconic Karak Chaii. But now, we’re bringing the Chaiiwala experience somewhere completely different — right to your road trip.
Why Watford Gap?
Watford Gap is one of the UK’s most iconic motorway service stations, a familiar stop for travellers heading up north on the M1 and Millions of people pass through each year, whether they’re commuting, visiting friends and family, heading to a match, or simply starting an epic road trip.
It’s the perfect place for a little chaii break. We wanted to make sure that whether you’ve got 5 minutes or 50, you can grab something delicious, fresh, and full of flavour before hitting the road again.
And yes — this location is Northbound only for now. However there is a bridge for those heading south who really need that chaii fix! So, if you’re heading on the road, consider this your sign to pull in and see what all the fuss is about.
A New Way to Enjoy Chaiiwala
This compact, purpose-built concept space, takes up just one-tenth of the footprint of our average store.
Why? Because we know that service station stops are quick, and convenience is everything. We’ve reimagined the Chaiiwala experience so that it’s faster, more streamlined, and tailored to life on the go. – located outside the main shopping hall, you don’t even need to go inside to grab a streetfood snack or chaii.
But don’t worry — just because the space is smaller doesn’t mean we’ve cut corners on taste. Every single dish and drink is made fresh, with the same love, care, and authentic flavours you know us for.

For years, we’ve been bringing Chaiiwala to busy high streets, bustling shopping centres, and buzzing university campuses. But we’ve always known there was another place our chaii could make a difference — the open road.
